Before now Nigerians have been groaning over the speedy rate at which unsolicited test messages disturb mobile phone users. These unsolicited SMSs were not restricted to a particular network provider as user of MTN, GLO, ETISALAT, AIRTEL and other mobile phone network providers have also fallen prey to these disturbing text messages.
The good news is that after so much complainants, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Communications Commission NCC has launched a code that enables mobile phone users to safely opt out and remain undisturbed by these unsolicited SMSs.

THE DO NOT DISTURB CODE

The NCC reveled this code in a formal press release recently. Just by sending an SMS;
STOP to 2442
Your line would be automatically unsubscribed from any hidden or open service. This SMS works for all mobile phone networks in Nigeria and once implemented, your line remains undisturbed even for a new or future disturbing text message.
The DO NOT DISTURB code has brought huge relief to millions of mobile phone subscribers in Nigeria. You can agree with me that not only does unsolicited SMSs run down phone batteries due to its alarming rate of reoccurrence,  it also exposes phone users to cyber and ICT fraudsters who use text messages to perpetrate their crime. The DO NOT DISTURB SMS also gives more user-right to subscribers to be able to choose what services to allow or disallow.
