As MultiChoice DStv Nigeria continues to retrieve older decoder models from millions of subscribers in Nigeria in free exchange for brand new models, they have extended the deadline for the free exchange to 30th November, 2014. This move was necessitated by the huge public turn out to this drive which resulted in long cues of subscribers waiting long hours to have their decoders swopped for new ones.

Inside the DStv Offices
Change your DStv Decoder from across the CSR Counter

In my previous post where I announced that DStv is now changing old decoders for new models, we highlighted the different branches of MultiChoice DStv in Nigeria, where you could walk in and have your old decoder exchanged for a new one. Now that more time has been given, you can avail yourself of this opportunity to change and get yourself a better decoder.

At the expiration of this deadline, charges shall be applied for any intending change of decoder.
Aside the DSD 990 and DSD 910 which, are normal single view decoders, subscribers who wish to rake in their old PVR or Dual View decoders will have in their place, two DSD 1132 single unit dwellings paired up in an ExtraView Network. This arrangement will enable the subscriber enjoy a double view from the two decoder points while paying for a single account.

While getting ready to turn in your old decoder, ensure that your subscription is active as it s one major condition for the free decoder change. Also, you need not present the receipt of purchase of the old decoder. Simply go with the old decoder and your valid form of identification - for Nigeria, the International Passport, National Identity Card or your Driving License.

If you have any questions, or few challenges related to this or more, we welcome your comments and do not forget to share this news with your friends on the social network. This could be the news they are waiting to hear.

Meanwhile as we embrace the new year 2015, DStv shall still continue this exercise if they fail to get all old models successfully exchanged. This is how you can change your old DStv decoder model by year 2015 if you fail to change it in 2014.

  1. I haven't used my decoder ( 990) for a while due to not being around. I have found out it doesn't boot properly and can't activate it. My question therefore is " how do I swap it for a new one ? This because your technicians insist I have to repair it, activate it then swap. I don't want to waste money on an old decoder I am about to swap just to swap it.

    1. Dear Reader, you do not need to repair the decoder but you have to subscribe on it so as to look like you were using it and then it became faulty. You can just recharge it with the least package - Access bouquet for 1,500 NGN, before taking it to any MultiChoice Office for the free swop. DO NOT WASTE MONEY REPARING WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO CHANGE FOR FREE. ONLY RECHARGE IT AND GRAB YOUR NEW DECODER. NOTE: ANY MONEY YOU RECHARGE IT WITH, SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE NEW BOUQUET SO YOU DONT LOOSE ANYTHING BY PAYING THE SUBSCRIPTION ON IT, BECAUSE YOU WILL STLL WATCH IT ON THE NEW DECODER YOU SHALL BE GIVEN, THANK YOU!

    1. Simply take that decoder along when going for the decoder change. However, MultiChoice would need an active subscription on the decoder before it can be changed. So, renew on it before you go with the decoder/

    1. Dear Tammy, you do not need to change the name on the decoder if you do not have the required materials to do so. Simply go with the decoder but ensure that there is an active subscription on it. The submission will be honoured. Thank you!

    1. Dear DStv subscriber, it is compulsory to go for the swop if your decoder is of models 990, 910, the very old PVR versions and the old Dual View decoders. However, your decoder DSD 1110 is still fully in use and does not require swopping. MultiChoice DStv is not accepting your decoder for swop. Please continue using your decoder. Thank you!

    1. Dear subscriber, thank you for being a loyal partner. You do not need to change the name on the decoder to your name before going for the free swop. Since you already know the name, use it as such. But while going, ensure you have an active subscription on the decoder. Your submission will be honoured. Thank you!

    1. Dear DStv subscriber, thank you for your interest in us. Your decoder DSD 1131 is not currently eligible for swop as it is still fully in use. You do not need to change it. However if it gives you issues from time to time, kindly take it to any nearest DStv office for proper assessment and possible correction or repairs. Thank you!

  9. I have DSD 1110 (+2) Decoder. Is it also eligible for a swop?

What could be resposnsible for the decoder to suddenly be hanging its being used even when it's not raining? This is becoming a source of discomfiture to me. Please advice.

    Thank you.

    1. Dear reader, your DStv DSD 1110 is currently not eligible for swop, it is still fully in use. However, the issue with image hanging has been largely reported. The issue is currently under technical assessment and it shall soon be a thing of the past. It is not from your decoder, the problem is from the satellite. Please bear with DStv!

    1. Dear reader, you may need to carry the letter of authorization along although it is not compulsory to do so. Simply know the name on the account and ensure there is an active subscription on the decoder. The decoder shall be honoured if it has been in use at least from August till date. Thank you!

    1. Dear Afolabi, thank you for your interest in DStv. Your HD decoder needs repairs, not a swop. However, if it becomes non-repairable, you could be given an Explora decoder after paying a subsidized amount. The Ibadan address is at Ibadan No. 14, Kudeti Avenue, Onireke, Ibadan, Oyo

  13. I have a PVR dual view and the old HD PVR decoder (the single view HD PVR decoder) on the same account as HD PVR. Will both decoders be eligible for the swop? And what do I get as a replacement, as I am currently able to watch 3 different channels at once

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dear subscriber, you are on a triple view platform. Your HD PVR decoder (primary decoder) is not eligible for swop. However, the old PVR Dual view decoder is very eligible for swop. On submission, the ExtraView account needs to be separated first, and you are entitled to two small-sized single view DSD 1132 or the Zapper HD decoder. Thank you!

    1. Dear reader, the policy on decoder swop holds that the decoder to be swopped must have been in use at least for 3 months before this swop period. I strongly doubt your decoder could be changed since you have not been able to use it since 2012. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dear reader, if you bought your decoder brand new, then all indications point to the fact that it is a recent model and as such, not eligible for the free swop. You can check behind the decoder for a label that bears the decoder model number. If it is not either DSD 910 nor DSD 990, nor an old big dual view nor old PVR models, then it is not eligible for the swop. Thank you!

    1. Dear Desmond, if yours is really a HD PVR, then it does not require swop. However, if it is an old dual view pvr, then it could be swopped for two DSD 1132 or the new HD Zapper decoder. Only from the CSR counter could you be told the conditions for getting an Explora in exchange. Thank you!

  22. Hi Emma, I have HD pVR (primary) and SD PVR in extra view mode to create 3 individual viewing environments. The dual view feature of the sd pvr creates the third environment in my kids room. I called mutlichoice and they say they will swap out the sd pvr for only 1 explora. I see here, you tell some people they will give them 2. which is correct? and how can i maintain a separate viewing environment for my kids if they give me explora? and should my explora become primary and the hd pvr secondary? what extra cables/cabling will i need? when swapping must i carry my hd pvr to be reconfigured too? someone wants to sell me a 1131. can i buy it and swap for an explora?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Dear Mr. Alabi, when swopped, your SD PVR could be exchanged for either an Explora or two of the DSD 1132s or the HD Zapper. However, the Explora decoder may not be rich in stock so, the probability that you shall get the DSD 1132s is very much high. Secondly, an Extraview account has maximum of 2 decoders so, whichever decoder you are given, you can only have two viewing environments since these decoders are all single view units. When swopping, take along with you the HD PVR for the Extra View recoupling. Lastly, you can not buy a DSD 1131 and swop it for an Explora. Thank you!

    2. i'd rather wait until explora is available as we use the PVR functionality. Adverts say u can change ur sd pvr up until february and the older non pvr decoders until 30th of this monthe. is this true? Also advert says the HD PVR will also be changed to explora, is this true.? I live in abuja

    3. Dear Kunle, you are right! So long as Explora decoder stock is available, your SD PVR decoder shall be exchanged for them. But when you get there, specifically request for it to ensure the needful is done. Thank you!

    1. Dear Ehi, I strongly doubt your decoder shall be eligible even after reactivation now, because the condition stipulates that it must have been active at least from August till date. However, you may visit any branch of MultiChoice nearest to you for a one-time enquiry into this unique status. Two years is so long a time for any unused decoder to attain "Legacy" status. Thank you Mr. Ehi
