If you are a user of the DStv decoder system, you must have experienced some codes appear on your screen whenever your channels are interrupted. These error codes have become some kind of explanations to the nature of the particular problem your decoder experiences.

I have discovered that understanding these DStv error codes and what each represents is a sure way of effectively managing and maximizing your DStv viewing pleasure. In this post, you will learn the meaning of these error codes and how to clear them from your screen.

E04\E04-4 means Please insert your smartcard indicating that the smartcard in not inserted or that the decoder in not reading from the card at the moment and the solution lies I inserting the smartcard, wait about 30 seconds and reboot decoder. If error message reappears, then the decoder and/or the smartcard has failed and should be returned to the supplier.

E05\E05-4 means Unknown card indicating that the smartcard is not applicable or invalid to this system and is rejected. The solution lies in inserting the smartcard with the chip facing down and the arrow facing towards the decoder and is also free of dust. Reinsert smartcard and wait 30 seconds, if E05 message reappears, then try rebooting procedure. If this fails then the decoder and/or the smartcard has failed and should be returned to the supplier.

E06 means smartcard failure indicating the smartcard in not correctly inserted or a communication problem between the smartcard and the decoder. The solution lies in removing the smartcard and reinserting or generally following the E05 solution procedure.
E07\E07-4 means the decoder is briefly checking your smartcard and this mostly takes a few seconds to complete. If after 30 seconds and the message remains displayed on screen, pull out and reinsert the smartcard. If E07 persists, reboot the decoder. If it still persists, then the decoder and/or smartcard has failed and should be returned to the supplier.
E16\E16-4 means you are not enabled to view this channel or account has been suspended indicating that access is denied or services were not paid for. Firstly, check if the channel displaying this message was subscribed to. If yes, then follow the CLEARING E16-4 reauthorization procedure and if it still persists, contact your service provider or any of their offices nearest to you.
E18 means Service is currently scrambled indicating access to service has been temporarily denied or there is no product match. Sometimes it also appears if the decoder has not connected to satellite for a long time or has its power cable removed for some time. Nevertheless, follow the CLEARING E16-4 reauthorization procedure but if it still persists, visit your service provider for a special command request to open your channels.
E30 means please wait a few minutes for your subscription status to be verified. This error appears if the decoder has not been connected to the satellite for a long time or has not been in use. For the solution, connect decoder to the dish (satellite), power on and wait for 15 minutes. If the problem does not resolve itself, then follow the CLEARING 16-4 reauthorization procedure.
E45 means Service not authorized indicating that an attempt is made to tune to a transport stream which is blocked. In this case, remove the smartcard, rescan all networks before reinserting the smartcard. Also check that you are using the current version of the software on your decoder.
E50 means No services available indicating that no services of that type exist in that bouquet. Also, remove smartcard, rescan decoder networks, reinsert smartcard and also check that you are using the current version of the software for your decoder.
E107-4 means your decoder and smartcard are currently not paired. A decoder and smartcard can only be paired once which also means that every smartcard is married to a particular decoder, where it only works. We normally see this error message in new activations or when a customer tries to use a smartcard for another decoder on a different decoder. Apply the Reauthorization only for new activations. However, advise customer that moving a smartcard from its decoder to another is illegal and not allowed.
E17\E17-13 means smartcard marriage conflict or service is currently scrambled. This error appears with a new installation of which the smartcard has not yet been activated or if the customer is trying to use their smartcard in a decoder to which it is not paired. Customer is advised to discontinue smartcard on that decoder if they are not originally paired or visit any nearest service provider’s office for assistance.

    1. Dear reader, thank you for your interest in my blog. Please kindly take your decoder to any branch of DStv. You are seeing that message because most probably your decoder was switched off as at the time of first time activation. Alternatively, if you are within Nigeria, you may call this number 012703232. Thank you!
